Has anyone here ever used Lunar-Linux, if so, is it better than Mandrake or vice-versa? I'm interested in experimenting with other Linux distros. I'm afraid to try Gentoo, I've been warned it's very difficult and that Mandrake is what I should stick with. What do you all think???
I have never tried Lunar Linux, but if you are looking to try other distros don't limit yourself by what others tell you. Try whichever distro that sounds like something that you might be interested in. The first distro I tried was Fedora Core 1 which was really simple to install and setup. After that I decided I wanted to get some hands on experience and went with Slackware. I haven't looked back yet. I love Slackware and the fact that it is so hands on is what made me love it. If I were you I would read the reviews here on LQ and then go to the distros website that you think sounds interesting and try it out. If you have problems there are so many knowledgable people here that are willing to help. You just have to have the willingness to try to figure things out on your own first.
From Mandrake to Gentoo is a pretty big step. Gentoo is very complex since you compile everything by yourself and it's very "own" so if you use Gentoo, you just learn Gentoo, you don't learn Linux that much.
