Unable to adjust clock applet size/font in panel in Debian, Cinnamon

I have Debian with Cinnamon and a vertical panel with applets. The width of the panel is maximum and when I allow the option “Allow cinnamon to scale panel text and icons according to panel width”, I get all applets of a normal size except for the clock/date applet. This one is going over the edges of the panel.

I was trying to adjust the size of the clock applet.

In /usr/share/cinnamon/theme/cinnamon.css file I increased value of font-size parameter in #panel section to 12 pt. I also unticked the option “Allow cinnamon to scale panel text and icons according to panel width” in Panel settings. This caused that the clock/date applet is completely visible, but the other icons are too small. Do you know how to adjust the size/font size of this applet only so that I see it on the panel, while the other applet icons remain big?

Thanks for the help

Either user linustalmann or RandomTroll had the exact same question recently, try to find threads they started.
