Recovering Mozilla Favorites menu

I am running SUSE 9.2. I use Mozilla as my main browser. I had it set up with several years of favorites. Somehow it lost this profile and returned me to a generic Mozilla profile without my favorites menu. I tried logging out and logging back in under different profiles but my favorites seem to be gone. Is there some way to get it back?

Firefox 2 or Firefox 3 ? Firefox 2 stored Bookmarks in an html file.. Firefox 3 stores them in a binary format.
the first is easy all you have to do is locate the bookmarks.html file

Firefox profiles are stored in a hidden folder in your home directory..

ls ~/.mozilla/default/

Read the "Lost Bookmarks" entry from the Mozilla Knowledge base.

If you are lucky, there is a bookmarks.bak
in ~.mozilla/firefox/"secret-code".default/

Make a copy in your /home/... , rename to
bookmarks.html and have a look to see if
it's usable.

Suggest :
Make backups of bookmarks often, or keep
them on the internet, the add-on "foxmarks"
takes care of that.
....
