Problem with X startup

Hi,

It seems I have yet another problem to resolve!

My default run level is '4', into KDE login manager.

For one of my users, when they try to login, X goes to a blank blue desktop screen, and in the bottom right corner, a console window; KDE does not fire up.

If the user types 'startx' in this console window, *then* KDE starts.

What could be causing this?

I don't know if it helps, but give it a try. Run xwmconfig as root and select KDE.

If that doesn't work you can put exec startkde in /home/<username>/.xinitrc.

echo "exec startkde" >> /home/<username>/.xinitrc

or use a texteditor like vim or something

Thanks for this. I got so frustrated (and the user account was new) that I just deleted and started over again.

No doubt the same error may occur again, so I'll bear your pointers in mind.
