Angry "Picture playback slows down in fullscreen mode"

I have a Gateway system powered by an Intel Mendocino processor clocking 500mhz with 384 mbs of RAM running Debian 3.1 with kernel version 2.4.27.

My problem however, is that the frames of the videos tend to freeze for some time or are too slow during playback when I switch the players to full screen mode yet everything is fine with players in small windows. This happens to all types of video formats with all players (including VLC, Totem, Kaboodle, Noatun and Xine which of course reports that the number of frames dropped per second is to high or my system is too slow.) I tried disabling some of the unnecessary daemons so as to free some RAM and maybe to relieve my processor but all in vain.

So please if anyone has a solution, you can e-mail me at lovesvick@yahoo.com but I personally do no think 500 mhz and 384 mbs of RAM are too little for video playback.

thank you Guys.

500Mhz are too little to play a ~600x400 movie, if your video card/chip doesn't have 2D accelleration enabled.

For hard-to-play videos (big size or many kbits per second), I've found that mplayer (without GUI) often does a better job than xine-based players.

I'm not talking features here; I like Xine a lot. I only talk about performance on the limits.

Yves.
