Wink Memory usage plus other problems...

I started my deb 4 system this evening and it had lost the date and time. My mother board is only 2 yrs old so I didn't think the on board batt had gone. I restarted and same happened. I set the system date and time in KDE and restarted and all seemed well. Date and time was kept correctly. I started system monitor to look at resource usage and the memory usage was creeping up and up from 25% to 67% where it levelled off. I have no idea why this might be.

Since then I cannot run the system monitor at all. I pick it from the KDE menu and an hour glass timer appears for a few seconds then disapears; no system monitor comes up. However, if I restart the machine KDE displays the system monitor and I can use it til I close it. Weird. Do I have a virus perhaps? I don't have a virus checker on my machine (although i do on my windows m/c).

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Greeb

Hardware breaks - and doesn't follow set time-lines.
If it were me, I'd be running memtest - over-night; or longer if you can.

Oh that's really a troublesome problem, it is something wrong with the memory , so you can not just use another good one for a test. I mean use other's memeory that compatible with your pc for a test to limit the range of the trouble , but it seems not easy to find such a memory .
