This is the first machine that I have ever seen that's backward compatible-

i686 code is intended to be executed on processors which are compatible
with the 32 bit Intel x86 platform, which includes all Intel 32bit x86
processors up to and including the Pentium 4,
Think I'll hold off awhile before marking this as solved,as all we did is determine I had a bad download for LM 32 bit CD and don't really know if it was really a problem.
I didn't have those issues. My videos always looked good (when working) and youtube/web videos always worked.Since making the "xorg.conf" file, all is working,at least for now. Will give it a couple of days and report back here.
Running the dmesg command kicks out a lot of output so if you can post the output of that command on paste bin and give us a link to go through the output. <Or> attach a file by clicking "manage attachments" under the white box where you type your messages that you post. http://pastebin.com/
Hey, you are back, great. Here's the latest deal.I set VLC video output module to x11,and it works great. The other vid players and skyrim launcher if still had wine, would still crash. So,what is this telling us?LM using a driver my laptop don't like?
Still trying to figure out why no drivers in driver manager.Someone posted same issue on Mint forum days ago with no response.Got a pm in to him just now, maybe he found a fix.Any how here is the Dmesg dump:
I set VLC video output module to x11,and it works great
Glad you have video now.
Your graphic's card may not be able to handle 2D and or 3D acceleration for gaming.
It just doesn't make any sense that there are no drivers in Driver MGR.
Are you still getting a blank window?
What version of the kernel is Mint using? Run this to find out:
Code:
uname -r
Thanks for confirming that's your machine.
How old is your machine?
The dmesg log is a lot to read and I'll need time to read through it.
Installing a higher version of the kernel sometimes makes performance or hardware issue's go away.
However, if you need a new kernel installed I don't have experience with that and members with that kind of experience will have to assist you.
Machine about 8 yr
3.16.0-38-generic i686 for kernel
Yep,that file is huge, couldn't post it here.
Gaming aside, all other video players crash upon opening. What's strange is the issue will self correct for awhile with a reboot.
Also can't find anyone who can/will tell me what the hell this means:
intel_do_flush_locked failed: Input/output error
All other players crash but VLC is working.....right?
The fact that it self corrects when rebooting tells me that something is not loading correctly.
A module/driver may not be loading properly. It's starting to sound like a video driver issue.
See in post #28 where I posted the error failed to reset chip-
I think this is the answer-

I had the same problem. In my case the i915 module of Kernel 3.0.72 was not able to reset the crashed GPU (intel 945). I had to install an "older" kernel version (3.0.52) and the problem was solved.
I'll have to ask a more experience member if this is kernel regression and if falling back to an older kernel (or) installing a higher version of the kernel is the answer MST246; I'm not sure.
