Installer bugs

I've been using the same distribution for about 3 years but I recently decided to try some of the other well known ones to decide if I should swap.

With three of them the installer crashed! One of them when setting up the disk partitioning - that is really scary! (Yes I've got a backup).
What is going on?

It would help if you give us some more info:
1. Which distributions in which version did you try?
2. In what way hve the installers crashed (at what point, error-messages, ...)?
3. What are your hardware specs?

The latest of all three - Fedora-15, Debian (6.0.3 on DVD and the mini-CD version) and Mint-11 Katya.
2. In what way have the installers crashed (at what point, error-messages, ...)?
Fedora while defining the partitions.
Debian could not install Grub (I believe this is a known bug)
Mint I didn't note the details.
3. What are your hardware specs?
Asus Pundit P1-PH1 1Gb Memory Intel 2 x Pentium4 3GHz

I'm not really looking for anyone to try and solve these individual problems, but rather wondering whether there is a common problem.

My worry is that if a newcomer can't even get Linux to install they aren't likely to become an enthusiastic user, and if it happens with more than one distribution they may decide that Linux is a waste of time.....
