Configure tint2 panel and transparent console on openbox

I have installed openbox from slackbuilds.org for 13.37.
I was new in box wm and used to have got kde in the past in which I
didn't have to configure anything but, now I seem to be on my own.
Please help me set few things on openbox such as a system tray on
panel in which I can put volume control, pastebin etc.(as kde keeps
these icons on the left side of the panel) and I would like
to have a transparent console.

I have installed tint2 panel and using with it's default
configuration. I also tried to install nitrogen but failed.
There is not much slack specific openbox tutorial so it's being
difficult to config it.

I have learnt a lot while configuring openbox, specially the nuance
of X. I've come across an openbox desktop picture that looks wonderful.
http://www.linuxandlife.com/2011/08/how-to-make-terminal-permanently.html

Please tell me how I could make at least the tint2 panel like that
of the pic. I have also tried to make transparent console but
couldn't as lxterminal and terminator, both console don't seem to
read conf files as they supposed to read - according to the tutorial.

Thank you.

No. I don't think you were rude.

Yes. It can be of a great help (in fact I'm using my panel of which I copied tint2rc from here but, right now I need to install at least a volume control and xclipboard as these are the most essential for me.

I tried to say I was a bit exhausted by experimenting with openbox where panel issue added a little misery. I got confused by the google code but I will read it and tackle the issue.

Thank you.

Thank you very much.
Great site. I have just started using a tint2 conf
file from here and planning to use more when I get a grip
on it. My tint2 panel is now slightly better but yet to
set vol control & xclip.

urukama's tutorial I previously tried but faced the same
problem what I faced while seeing google code page, being a complete
noob in WM, I can't figure out what I need to download and install.
It is a bit dated too. As for an example, I can't understand the difference between panel, taskbar and systray.

Thanks again for titntwizard script. I haven't yet used it 'cause I
don't know the basics.

Any tip for transparent console. I can't make lxterminal and terminator transparent.

I run either rox terminal or evilvte instead of lxterminal. Both are easier to set transperacy with in prefernces.

Attachment 11201

It is a fake transperacy though. You might want to look at using Guake or tilda.

Guake came preinstalled on my Semplice Linux Install which runs openbox also.

Hi,

Thank you for your tip. I installed evilvte but it also failed.
Now I have installed Urxvt and got transparency and I have had to install xcompmgr and feh. Couple of issues are there but I have
to sort out these problems.

Thank you.

P.S. Now I am going to configure tint2 panel so planning to
google code page.

Thumbs up

rokytnji

Huge apologies with lot of thanks.
I have done it. I apologies because,
as you had suggested to read urukrama's blog

,
I should have read it carefully. Another major issue was,
root menu was failing to find binaries so I again followed
the blog and got menumaker, a python script which created
root menu with all the installed packages.

That was of a great help, great help.

Thank you with due apology
