I just installed Fedora 14 inside of a VM. After logging in (Gnome), I performed a system update and rebooted. Everything was working fine but the default resolution is 1024x768. I changed the desktop resolution to 1680x1050 (native for my LCD) using the Monitor GUI, accepted the change, and bounced the system. Now, during initial login, the screen looks stretched wide. Also my desktop's text looks huge. When I open Firefox, the webpage text looks normal but the browser's interface text is huge. Winterm windows also have huge text. Any thoughts on why it's doing this?

Probably,
1. Old monitor settings exist in xorg.conf. Solution - hide xorg.conf Y& trstart X
2. It can't choose a video mode, in which case it will default to 640x480@60hz which everything has to be able to handle. Pages with % settings will scale correctly but fonts will be massive.
Some web pages will be hopelessly oversized. Solution - Set up xorg.conf.

Just looking, you seem to be on 1024x768, by my estimate. your monitor has a 4:3 aspect ratio, and 1680/1050 is 16:9, and therefore unsuitable.

To get my display to work correctly in Fedora 14, in VMware, I had to install the VMware tools in the Fedora 14 OS. For Fedora 14, the VMware tools don't work out of the box (VMWare Server 2.0.0; VMWareTools-7.7.6-203138). I used these two links to get my display configured properly:

During this little adventure I found out that system-config-display has been depreciated as of Fedora 14. It's not listed in the standard repositories either. I had to download it and then force the install. Mind you, using system-config-display wasn't the fix action but this is useful info for others running Fedora 14 on a real box.
