Backup tool mint 18

Linux mint is 18 coming to end & after using it for over three years, I would like to be able to backup & reinstall documents, pictures, music etc. If I used the backup tool in mint 18, can it be used to put everything back on the latest Linux mint 20 after installation?

Nominally yes, data are just data. Mint has however used several different tools, to varying degrees of usefulness. I found this blog - if that is the tool you are using, restore from the tar should be trivial. Should apply to any tool, but the dejadup tool they used for a while I found a pain to use.
