Am I going about things the right way

I have a boxed Mandrake Linux 10 and MandrakeMove down load collection, I have only basic computer knowledge and am presently useing "The Dreaded XP". I am trying linux out of curiousity and have just purchased an older PC(600Mhz 10gig HD with no OS) to run mandrake rather than dual boot.
Is this a sensible way to start.

Sure, I don't see why not. As long as it's not your main box and it's able to connect to the Web, you should be fine.

maybe try to have a bigger harddisk , like say 20(at least) or 40 gig(better) , you may have linux as your main box , at least "99%" ...

Thanks for the advice alred,Im only picking up the new (old)computer tommorow and I would imagine that 10gigs should be enough to decide if I like linux and I thought the $50 I paid wasn't much to risk at this stage.
I'll keep ya posted.

doesnt matter ... probably that 10gig can be use as your single main linux system for "jumping around" and you can install other bigger disks(prefarably with 3 or 4 primary partitions if allowed) later anytime if you choose to do so ...

infact i have one machine with this kind of starter newbie arragment , this machine last forever ...

10 GB drive would be fine, I originally started with mandrake years ago on a 2.5 GB drive. When your starting out you wont need much to play around with to familiarize yourself.

probably there is a need if suppressor wanted to upload tons of media/or_whatever files to the linux machine from the windows machine ... playing and reading them locally , at least proving what multimedia linux has to offer at an early stage ...

who knows ... might just as well installing on an available faster and newer machine ...

//dont worry , suppressor , linux is not overwhelming in their replies , take your time ...

//and goodluck ...
