[Solved] X11 Bug: Vertical Purple Bar

Greetings, it's been a long time since I've been active on this forum (so long that I no long have access to the email that I originally signed up!)

I've recently encountered a weird issue where a purple vertical bar is showing up on my Linux desktop environment (see screenshot 1). This issue just started randomly occuring after I walked away from my computer for a short bit and returned, no system / package updates, reboots, or anything else inbetween. Some specifics:

- It always appears in the same place
- It only appears over *white* background colors, for example see the 2nd screenshot with linux questions being displayed, the issue only appears in the white areas
- It appears on all Linux desktop envrionments (gnome, kde, etc)
- It does *not* appear when I boot into my windows partition
- It goes away when I switch the gnome 'night light' mode on

Relevant lspci:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics P630 (rev 04)
01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM206GLM [Quadro M2200 Mobile] (rev a1)

I have tried with the propertary nvidia driver and without, nothing seems to rectify the problem.

I am currently confounded and don't know where to begin to debug. Would someone please be able to advise? Even some pointers of what I could search for / what I could try to debug would greatly assist. Thanks!

^ I concur.
Maybe also: did you try another desktop environment (not GNOME)?

Hi Thanks for the responses. Turns out it is a hardware issue, though it is a bit odd why it doesn't appear in Windows, when the night light is on, etc. The problem is similar to that described here and can be resolved temporarily by pushing in a certain area on the monitor case below the problem area. I'm thinking it's a loose connection or similar, and will investigate in the near future by taking the aparatus apart.

Thank you again for the help, this issue can be marked as resolved
