[CentOS] sound/ (i.e. rythmbox, flash) stops working when Ctrl-Alt-F2-ing

I still use the console from time to time and like to have sound playing in the background. This was no problem with other distros, but with CentOS on my new laptop, sound will stop working once I hit Ctrl-Alt-F2.

It seems the X-Server behaves a bit different in general, since I am used to Ctrl-Alt-F1 yielding a Terminal, too, and -F7 being the X-Session, whereas in CentOS, F1 is the X-Session.

Is there any way to keep Desktop apps to keep running with sound in the background? (Yes, I know CentOS is not really designed for laptop use...)
