Why I get this error message? "the . boot partition must be ..."

I try to set up Deepin 23 as a part of a dual boot. I get an error at the beginning of the installation process (see the attached screenshot.). I have used early versions of Deepin in the same arrangement before without this issue. How to resolve it?

Boot any Linux in live or recovery mode and provide us output from parted -l and lsblk -f, and we may be able to determine what the installer's complaint is about.

Those are Linux commands, right? The Linux hasn't been installed yet. And Deepin doesn't have a live mode. How to run them?

In Linux installers I'm familiar with, after booting to the installer is complete, Ctrl-Alt-F2 can produce a shell prompt from which common commands like these two can be run. Command output can be redirected to a file on a FAT filesystem that Windows can read.

Basically those commands are for determining your current disk configuration in sufficient detail, which you don't get using Windows' own tools, and thus why you see the message you see, and what to suggest you do to avoid or get past the problem.

http://www.dfsee.com has a partitioner that logs output. You could use its log to show the same information needed. Simply start it up, then exit, to get a log to paste here using code tags.

Thanks for your info. Here is the log from DFSee, not sure whether it is what you want to see or not. I run it on Windows and I don't see the partition which I set up for Linux under drive selection. It is marked as free space.

What I expected to see looks like what I attached. Your paste is pretty much the same as the first 5 lines of what I attached, and expected to see you paste. The most important part of what I attached begins on line 60, the main table of partitioning data.

In Windows to work as I expected DFSee needs to be run as administrator. It's been a very long time since I tried running it in Windows, and forgot.

Thanks again. I open the log file again and see it contains more context as the following
Code:

Apparently Windows behaves differently by default, logging what I don't care about only, and leaving out what I do, and also it looks like if you start it, then exit, then start again, it appends to the log instead of creating a completely new log. What you pasted completely left out everything about sizes, so please try again:
  1. start dfsee
  2. F10 (exits menu)
  3. geo (prints short geometry summary)
  4. part (creates data table that includes sizes of both partitions and freespaces, types and much more)
  5. F3 (quits dfsee)
All I'm actually interested in is the table resulting from the geo and part commands, like you see in my attachment. The rest is unimportant.

From what I've seen so far, I have no idea what the Deepin installer was complaining about. OTOH, the DFSee output you pasted shows two different things 27 minutes apart, both of which are very different from the two disks with 3 partitions each in the Deepin image. The earlier section shows only one partition on the Kingston, and four on the Seagate. The later shows six on the Seagate. ?!?!??!!?!

Thanks very much for your help again. I run those commands in the sequence with an extra step "log to file ..." prior to the F10. Here is the output file. It contains one or two sections that weren't in the previous printout. Let me whether it is what you expect or not. If not, I can run it again. The Windows disk management shows two partitions on the disk 0 (SSD) and five partitions on disk 1 (HDD).

Post #7 & post #9 have the same dates in the pastes, so both came from the same file, and omit the table we need to see. The part needed should start out roughly similar to what follows:

Suggest using the Deepin stable iso 20.8 not the 23 alpha iso.

So, the issue is for the 23 version only? The 20.x version can't be upgraded to the 23 version without removing the 20.x version first according to Deepin website.

So, it is a bug with the 23. I posted the same question on the Deepin team's forum, no response so far other than spam.
