Talking Trying out LXD containers on our desktop computer

Here is another tutorial on trying out containers on our Linux desktop (Ubuntu),
https://blog.simos.info/trying-out-l...on-our-ubuntu/

For instructions about Arch Linux: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LXD

For instructions about Fedora: https://linuxmonk.ch/wordpress/index...lxd-on-fedora/

The benefit of all this, is that it's possible to get a container of a full Linux (even a different distribution than the one we are running) to start and run.
It takes a couple of seconds to boot up.

In the tutorial I show how to start up a container, install a Web server (nginx in this case), and finally access this container from our Web browser of our desktop Linux.

Thanks for this.

Just an additional note that the Ubuntu package adapt, which uses LXD, might prove a useful tool:

Quote:
This package provides a simple, clean method to install and use
packages, services, and binaries from one version of Ubuntu onto
another, without requiring PPAs.
Instead, it uses LXD and Ubuntu system containers.
I haven't tried using it yet, but came across it just before reading your thread, so thought it might be of interest. I found a blog post on it here: https://www.ostechnix.com/adapt-run-...buntu-version/
