Post Who do talk to to get certified in a particular area of LINUX????


I am an old IBMer left the field the time AIX system came out with AS/400. Have experience in connecting aschii systems with EBCDIC computers, lang: assembler, C++, COBOLII, FORTRAN, EDX, RPGIII, many other Lang.... Looking to write small bus. systems in C++ with WINDOWS like software and database underneath. Local Area Networks. Desktop & laptop Computers Loaded with LINUX & OFFICE software. Just would like Certification for Installation and LAN & security.....

There is no "small business applications in C++" certification you can get. There is not a "Linux programming" certification. There are RHEL and other Linux certifications, but all of them are pretty much meaningless, if you ask me.

LEARN WHAT YOU ARE DOING first, before getting a piece of paper saying you're 'certified' in Linux. Load Linux...use it daily. Learn how to configure services, troubleshoot things, read log files, stop/start services, etc. Write scripts. DO something with it. Would you have hired someone who had a 'certification' in AIX, and didn't know what smitty could do? Or just knew very basic things? Or would you have gone "This guy has no idea what's going on..."

Nothing different with Linux.
