Linux+: IRQ questions really on the exams?

Im looking through the Linux+ material and browsing a few sample questions, mulling over whether to take the Linux+ exam. I'd really like to do it but some of the questions seem a bit anal. For example under section 6.1 of the exam questions it asks about IRQ's, DMA etc. etc. and mock questions i've encountered even ask you what IRQ channel x does, which DMA channel is used for this and that etc. etc.

I was just wondering whether this was actually on the exam itself? Is it really necessary to learn all the IRQ's, DMA, I/O Address ranges etc. etc.

Also if anyone has any good resources for preparing for the exam it would be appreciated.

Thanks

I bought 2 O'reilly books, I was recommended these when I asked a similar question: LPI Linux Certification in a Nutshell , Second Edition
and: Linux Network Administrator's Guide, Third Edition

I have read through these, I just havent taken my LPI Test yet. The links are:

If you do take the test, lemme know how it goes.

The first version of exam was sometimes jokingly referred to as "A+ for Linux", as almost 20% of it was "core hardware" type Qs. The current version places much less emphasis on hardware (only 8%) and much more on security.

So to answer your Q: yeah, you still "need" to know it, but if you ace the other domains you could probably squeek by without memorizing all the base memory addresses, interupt request lines and DMA channels.
