I have no internet access while I try to install so getting the tarball and Portage is getting difficult. I have tried modprobing the specific modules but I still get only lo out when i do ifconfig and iwconfig. I really need internet

Are you using ethernet connection or wireless? Are you installing Gentoo on VM?
