mysterious php 5.3 issue

Hey all. I've installed gentoo on a brand new machine and I've encountered an issue I've never seen before.

I've emerged dev-lang/php and you can see it functioning by calling php --version

Quote:
PHP 5.3.4-pl0-gentoo (cli) (built: Dec 31 2010 03:27:53)
Copyright (c) 1997-2010 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2010 Zend Technologies
However I have the following TEST file in "test.php"

<?
print("...??");
?>

and when I run it via command line.

$php test.php

the result is

Quote:
<?
print("...??");
?>
WTF?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is there a use flag that I need enabled? maybe the "makethiswork" flag?

Thanks much.

Hi,

You need to use:
PHP Code:
<?php
as the opening tag

Regards

I KNOW I tried that before but it works now that I've added <?php

I must have added it incorrectly somehow. Thanks much! Now I have to add this to all my code ;P

I've also just enabled short tags so I don't have to add this to the opening tag.

Thanks
