Having KVM/Xen Problems Setting up on Gentoo Host
I recently switched to Gentoo for my workstation and plan to run some web servers with it in the near future. I've been trying to set up VMs on the system, but I've been running into a few problems, and I'm somewhat lost as to what to do now. I initially tried using Xen, but immediately ran into problems because I'm using the Nvidia proprietary drivers. I use the machine for gaming, so I don't want to switch to the open ones. I then tried KVM, which worked to a point, but as soon as I tried to compile anything in the VM, I got error messages saying that GCC couldn't create executables. I checked the CFLAGS and the USE flags, but nothing seems unusual. Is -march=native safe for VMs? I also know that Gentoo tends to be hardware specific. If I copied an image from a VPS to a VM on my machine, would it work? I know that it is possible to compile the kernel in such a way that both Xen and the Nvidia drivers are supported, but most of the documentation I found is outdated and from other distros. Any input would be great. Thank you.
