Gentoo and intel gma 945 on acer aspire one

I have installed gentoo on an acer aspire one. Everything runs smooth except for the graphics. This netbook has intel gma 945. It starts only with vesa driver (intel reports error "module 915i not found) at 800x600 instead of monitor's display 1024x600. I read about a bios hack to work at native resolution with vesa, but couldn't find the files online. The netbook came with linpus linux lite, so I tried to use linpus's kernel, modules and xorg.conf, but got a kernel too old to support current evdev, or so. It booted but I couldn't use keyboard, mouse or ethernet to ssh from another computer. I also tried to use just the xorg.conf file from linpus but gave me the same 915i not found error. Any threads and blogs I have read so far didn't help much, so if anyone could give me any clues, I would appreciate it.
Why is the intel driver not working, anyway? It is supposed to support this card.

I think it would be easier to find and install the i915 module.

Ok, looks like I'm a bit stupid :-P . Last night I had enough time to take a closer look at my kernel configuration and the on line how-tos I had bookmarked. And I realized that I hadn't actually built the i915 module. The reason for that is that the name of the menu which includes this option, (aka DRI Manager or something) is so large that exceeded my screen length, so I didn't notice it is actually a submenu. The graphics work just fine now with the intel driver.
