genksyms missing

I'm trying to emerge nvidia-drivers and it's not working. The build fails because genksyms cannot be found.

nvidia.ko failed to build!

locate displays a directory in the kernel source for genksyms, but it does not exist as an executable. How, or where, is it built?

I did a quick google search for bug reports regarding this issue. The result was that a lot of people are having this problem, which doesn't help you much. In the gentoo bugtracker, I found one solution, which you use at your own risk, but might be helpful.
