Winodws shuts down after 2-4 minutes? Viruse? or the new keyboard?

I am using McAfee anti virus for the past three years never had a problem. Two days ago I was updating the anti virus suddenly the computer shut down. I tried to restart it immediately but it did not. After a while it restarted, for about 3 minutes and shut down again.
It keeps restarting itself after 2-4 minutes for 2-4 minutes if i don't unplug it. i tried to start it on safe mode it does it on save mode as well.
I don't know whether this is due to a virus or ;
My keyboard was broken and i borrowed another keyboard, this happens on the first time I am using this new keyboard which i am not sure if that has done it.
any ideas?

So what happens if you didn't trough it in the trash ... if you connect the old keyboard?
Does it also shut down?

Having a working keyboard does make you better? Why don't you leave your damn elitist attitude out there. I can't either help with the OP's problem but the kind of you people doesn't make things a lot better.

@Smiling Jack
Try with another keyboard. With a PS/2 conector should be more "stable" than with an USB one. If you keep having this issue, likely you might have been bugged

I second that, raska. It's a bit of a pity.

@Smiling Jack
Also, check that the autorestart option in Windows is unticked. It's in Control Panel > System. Then select the Advanced Tab, then Startup and Recovery. Untick the box called Automatically Restart. That might stop it restarting incessantly.

Makes me think overheat. A virus would not make you wait awhile to restart and either would a keyboard (It would atleast POST, keyboard beep may happen if it was that). I would pop the case off and see how dusty everything is!

Just my

The reason I mentioned the auto restart thing was because the Blaster-A virus would cause windows boxes to restart every 3 minutes (if my memory serves), although I think that was because of a default windows setting, rather than something the virus actually did to the machine.

i'll admit that my post was unnecessary, but then what would drive a windows user to a linux forum for windows help in the first place?

just take a look at the linux vs windows mega-thread: windows users bashing linux all the time, but as soon as anything goes wrong, then they expect windows tech support from the forum

and being a slackware user means i have to think and act just like you?

No, but it shows the prototyped tendency that slackware and gentoo users are ones with the most elitist attitude, of which I'm ashamed of.
There is no reason to be ever elitist.

Did he say that? Being a linux user means you are exercising your freedom to choose and you should respect others for there choices as well. I don't know you from Adam but I would venture to say you have came from windows at one point so were you not in a boat where you might have needed help at one time? Do you pay for this site? Did you even know about Slack being one of the oldest distros around? Did you know Slack gets a bad rap because of things like you just did? Did you know you could have simply shook your head in shame and passed this topic right up?

WOW!!! The choices!
