Windows Dial up is Slow... Compared to Linux.

Alright, just thought I would see if anyone has a clue on this one.

When dialing out to my ISP thru Windows, it dials and all, then authenticates, then it says its logging onto the network and sits there for about 2 minutes before it finishes.
In Linux, its almost instant and I am connected.

It never did this until they changed access numbers on me and then windows now has the problem.

Any clues why Windows would take so long in logging onto the network and Linux is instant?

Its not that it matters though since most of my work is done in Linux.

yes, this is a stupid option that is often on by default in windows when a dial-up thing is created. in the properties for the connection there should be a tick box (in the server types area) above 'enable compression' called 'log into network'.

this isn't really needed for isp connections, only for dial up connections into a LAN or something similar. turn this option off and it should skip this stage in the dial-up and connect quicker.

basically, the dial-up hangs coz your isp gets confused over your request to log on (since you don't need to, it isn't expecting that request).

hope that solves things
