Reason: yawn
Anyway, with luck, all Ubuntu/Canonical servers will soon be free of my personal data, and I will once again be a happy Windows user. A shame that after so many years and thousands of posts my Linux experiment is a failure.
That seems a bit rash - and though I shouldn't really care either way, you've been around a long time and it seems silly for a user due to abandon GNU/Linux over one bad experience with one distro.
My advice to you: Nuke it and install Debian in place of it. No experienced GNU/Linux user should be tied to a distro like 'buntu or to any one distro.
The punchline is that I can *still* login with my compromised email and password (despite *multiple* requests--some polite, some not-so-polite--for them to delete this stolen personal data) whereupon I see the "you're banned" message. In other words, they have no intention of honoring my request to opt-out of storing my personal data on their insecure site, and no mechanism in place to satisfy the privacy concerns of the 2 million users affected by the recent hack. Oh well, I tried. Fortunately it is an older email address I rarely use, and the password is an obscenity I don't use on any other sites. I defended Canonical during the "selling our search strings to Amazon" scandal, but now I must unfortunately hop on the "Ubuntu is spyware" bandwagon.
And of course I am not going back to Windows, just trolling them. All in good fun, cynwulf!

They don't care about you, your data, your request, your contribution or the time you spent there. The staff and especially the two staff involved, simply want rid of you because you're making waves.

No need to hop on any "bandwagon". Not using buntu does not mean that you have to subscribe to any of the mythological "hater" groups...

Ah... but it's not obvious to the reader - plus what's the point...? I would have said: "I'm going to buy a real apple".
At this point the staff will probably close this thread if the discussion continues along these lines - and I've no desire to start a full on 'buntu forums bashing fest - they already do a very good job of making themselves look bad. Good luck with whichever distro you choose to move onto.
Oh I haven't used 'buntu since 2009! (For reasons I won't get into... I won't say anything else controversial here. )
I *am* legitimately glad the forums are back up, though. They are a great resource, and often the first Google hit when researching a problem. I'm happy that my posts there have been restored so that they may be continue to be of benefit to others (the meaning of "Ubuntu").
Next time try and stay positive and be constructive, like: "Thank you for peeing in my ear but I think it would be better down my back. I'm sure it's really raining though, like you said."
