Hello,
I have job offers from two different companies. One is paying high, but I don't want to go for money at the moment. I want to select the technology which can give me a better career.
One job is related to HPTC/grid. High Performance Throughput Computing. (Lower package compared to other job in hand, and lower level)
Second offer is related to trouble shooting of servers in production.
HPTC/grid seems a narrow field. I have no idea about career if i worked with hptc/grids.
I enjoy working with the technology and linux/unix, don't want to go to the marketing etc, but i want a better something good in packages, keeping balance with my interest in technology.
My question:
i)What is the market value of HPTC/grid? in case i want to switch after 1-2 years can i get a job somewhere else?
ii)Places which use HPTC/grids?
iii)Can HPTC help me in fetching a better package?
For the long haul, go with what interests you---your performance will be higher when you are really turned on about a subject. If you really need the money, go for that---but make it a short-term tactic, not your career strategy.
The downfall of so many of the big brokerage houses perhaps illustrates the fallacy of simply pursuing $.
From the standpoint of advancing a career involving computers and computing, I would look well beyond a specific technology because that changes so fast. Instead, I would be focusing on the underlying logic and concepts, and trying to decide whether what I would learn conceptually is more valuable/interesting/important in one job vs the other.
Thus, for instance, I have not worked on an IBM Series/1 computer since about 1983 and I seriously doubt I ever will again. However the event-driven comcepts I learned then, the interprocess communications mechanisms I learned then, and some of the polled networking concepts I learned then, are concepts that I still employ frequently in much more modern settings.
Is that means if I worked over HPTC/grid my career options will be narrowed down, in case of a narrow field, I want to know if HPTC/grid pays off reasonalble, f.e 2 years of work in troubleshooting production servers with a famous brand company vs. 2 years of work with HPTC/grid, what will be better.
HPTC/grid pays well?
My career plan is to be at a good position and leave the asia region (india) in next 2-3 years or may be to earn reasonalbe at same place.
So what are the other companies which I can look forward in case of I want to switch?
My target is to keep the balance with what I enjoy working and my expenses, senior position.
