Program to get live updates

Hi,
I want to get updates on some sites off which I regularly information from. What I would like to know if there's a program that can feed live updates to my desktop, something like what a news aggregator does. The difference here is that the program would have to login and then get the updates. Please advise.

Your question is a bit vague, but it sounds like you could use 'wget' in a cron job to fetch from a URL on a regular basis. You would probably want to compare the newly fetched data to the last copy received, and if different, do 'the right thing', whatever you deem that to be. I can tell you that many system administrators will dislike you for doing this, especially if you are hitting the web server very frequently.

You might get more/better answers if you supplied a bit more detail about what you are trying to accomplish.

Sounds more like RSS or some sort of news ticker to me.
