ideas for cloud storage and be accessed anywhere?

hey guys well I need some ideas on some software I can use. I am not sure if such things exist

but is there something I can use (software wise), install it on my VM that allows me to access a shared folder from any location?

I know there is port forwarding and/or setting up A records to point your a hostname to your machine...say www.willc86.net and that will lead me to my shared directory after setting it up...

but ive been hearing why not just use a software, install it, and that software sets everything up for you
