Unhappy I'm going to cry.

I tried to install almost ten programs today. Guess how many of then succeeded?

None. Not a single one. It went to as far as saying "No such file or directory" for the 'make' command even though everything should have been set to go.

I mean, really. There has to something terribly wrong with my system.

sounds like you were trying to compile the programs, not install them...

are you positive that you have make installed??

So what do you want us to do, hold your hand or let you rest your head on our shoulders while you cry? If you actually try and provide details, like what you tried to install, steps you took to install and so on.. someone here might actually be able to help.. other than that, if your going to cry, do it elsewhere, we don't need the forums here all soggy..

I just needed a place to vent. If you can't handle it, you're perfectly free to ignore the thread.

What I tried to install was a BASSMOD plugin for xmms, but got nothing more than a whole bunch or odd error messages. Then I tried to install other mod players with similar results.

Thinking that there might be something missing from the development files and programs, I used rpmdrake and tried to install all possible development tools that I hear can be missing from a Mandrake install.

The result was odd error messages. That's when I gave up and started crying in frustration.

This forum was setup to ask questions, I come here to help others, not read peoples rants and venting.. perhaps you should setup a blog for people to read such things...

I'm not trying to be an arse, just stating the truth in the purpose of coming here.. or at least post something we can all relate to, like news or a joke. But venting without any questions asked, what are we suppose to respond with.. I think my response was legitimate to your venting, if you don't like such responses, don't use a technical forum to vent in..

Good job trickykid

henrikanttonen--We all understand frustrations and some of us have LQ.org as RSS feeds to help us with our own problems. You will find your time better spent by posting what you are trying to do, how you tried to do it, and what the output was. Then, qualified people can really try to help.

And, BTW, if you notice trickykid has a title, Moderator. That means it's his job to help people who are having an issue. It wastes the moderators time posts like yours and provide feedback to not post as you did. It just isn't appropriate for a technical forum and it waste's people's time, expecially people like trickykid, who could be helping somebody else.

This is an excellent forum to receive solutions to problems and in turn to give back to others who may be experiencing your same problem after you learn the solution.

And all that said, this has been quite entertaining. Don't cry, work hard to learn the solution and it will be a positive experience for you and others here.

Regards!

Probably just a bad Mandrake Update mirror site, happens all the time. I always use the one in France... clubinternet.fr or something like that.

I thought the General board was for all sorts of post. Hence the name 'General'. Including the occational venting. I know I'm not the first one. If I was wrong, I apologise and won't post anything else than questions for now on.

But it turns out, my system does have something terribly wrong. I've lost several files in the past days. This time it was crucial files. No more automake, perl or other stuff like that. No wonder nothing works. I found out I've also lost 2 years worth of continuous work because of the same problem and all backups are either unfunctional for several reasons or missing.

whoa, that's hardcore... have you narrowed-down the problem somewhat?? like, are you past the point of determining if it was a hardware or software issue??

where were the backups?? if i had something that was taking me years to create i'd probably be backing-up to CDs and storing them in my fire-proof safe...

No, no, you're thinking of Slashdot. Try venting there... everyone else does

On CD, DVD and Server. CD is malfunctioning, DVD is missing and Server was erased.

I think the problem is on my hard disk or other pretty major part of the hardware. Random files keeps dissappearing. I've also had issues in detecting CD's and my USB flash drive.

Shitty business when I should work pretty much and have no money to buy a new one.
