Gnome.org website compromised

As reported on slashdot, the Gnome.org website was believed to have been compromised:

From the Gnome.org mailing list:
-------------------------------------------------
We've discovered evidence of an intrusion on the server
hosting www.gnome.org and other gnome.org websites.
At the present time, we think that the released gnome
sources and the gnome source code repository are unaffected.

We are investigating further and will provide updates
as we know more. We hope to have the essential services
hosted on the affected machine up and running again as soon
as possible.

The GNOME sysadmin team
23 March 2003
---------------------------------------------------

Will be interesting to see if the next Gnome release gets postponed as a result.

what kinda assmonkey compromises open source sites? all that talent could be of so much more use by helping to fix code in existing programs.

Script Kiddies:

A Script Kiddie is someone who is "socially challenged" and has very little respect for the privacy of others. They utilise freely available software, which is easy to use, to scan networks in the hope of finding a computer that is compromised enough to allow them to have some fun.

Seems to be an unfortunate trend recently. FSF, Debian, Gentoo, and now Gnome.
