I have a Remington electric shaver (triple-head) that I was pretty happy with. It would have lasted me years I think except that the rechargeable batteries lost their ability to recharge. After spending a half-hour figuring out how to get it opened up, I found out that the batteries are soldered in place. While I have soldering equipment, it seems like too much of a bother to replace batteries that way every time, plus kind of dangerous (I'd need to solder directly to the terminals, presumably).
So, I was thinking of buying a new shaver. Is anyone aware of any specific brand/product that allows the batteries to be easily replaced, yet is also a high quality shaver (provides good shave and will last a long time)? I thought this would be easy to Google, but it wasn't.
I took my shaver apart and just pried the solder off of the rechargeable battery. I put a AA in place and electrical tape around the battery with the wires (+ gob of solder) taped to the correct terminal. I have to be careful putting it in that I don't reposition the gobs of solder under the electrical tape, but it lasts me about 6 months (I only shave once a week).
For one with 3 cutting heads it's best to go with the corded non-rechargeable version i.e. the one you plug into the wall to use.
I have only seen trimmers with replaceable batteries, in fact I have many of them. I also have a corded shaver with 3 cutting heads. All the rest (rechargeable ones) that I have owned have gone the way yours has, and I will not be buying any more of these. It's quite a scam. I mean not only does it take a full day to charge and last only 15-20 min (usually it cuts out right before I finish), but the batteries wear out quickly and are very hard to replace. Oh, and it's also expensive.

No batteries last forever so you have to factor in replacement, and a lot of lower end products will have the cheaper China made batteries, so replacing with a better quality will get more life out of it. Also some lower end will just trickle charge and never shutoff which does shorten the life of the batteries over time.
I've had my current cordless since 2006, I plug it in once a week and it has a smart charger that shuts off when the battery is fully charged.
