Why is that I often feel like a
driving instructor, and people
hop in on the first lesson,
don't put on their seat-belt and
excitedly shout:"Rrrrright, so,
how do you do those power-slides?"... ?
And I say:"You will need to
use the accelerator, and the
handbrake...."
And they shout:"HUH!?!? ... enough
of that crap, just tell me!"
b/c MS truly has made computing easier for the masses, at a basic level. you point, you click, stuff happens, and usually it will work right (at first ). (NB that "easier" does not mean "better.") when something goes wrong, your system is hosed, but then "just reinstall" and hope that fixes it. unbelievable.
so they bring those expectations to linux, and think they're going to be able to point and click their way to everything, without learning at least some of how the system actually functions "under the hood." they want the automatic transmission, but linux is manual.
