BitchX... you can't type BITCH @ FedoraForum.org because it will save as *****

They refuse to change their policy so I can write a howto and so other people can discuss one of the most popular IRC clients for UNIX on the planet. If you type out bitchx and then click save or submit, you will see only *****X. Bad form.

I put up a web pages (http://www.geocities.com/t3gah/index2.html and http://www.geocities.com/n3g33lum/index2.html) for my thread because they keep deleting them.

Below is a reponse from a community manager or moderator as they are called in other forums:

Code:
Hello t3gah,

justol'bob has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled
- the b word that isn't and was and can be and should be - in the
Wibble forum of FedoraForum.org.

This thread is located at:

Here is the message that has just been posted:

T3gah, here's the thing: The Forum was set up long before you and I
became part of it. You and I don't make the rules and starting threads
like this are not going to change them. If you're dissatisfied with one
or more items, please start a private conversation with one of the
moderators or administrators. We'll work with you to discuss and maybe
change something, if it's in the Forum's best interest. Please, though,
don't use what was designed to be an area for problem-solving for a soap
box. Thanks!

Well this is an issue with a third-party site. Mind you, I too have been guilty of doing this in the past by bringing up an issue with another Linux forum and the moderators were not too happy

Since you brought it up, BitchX is a very immature name for a program. Regardless if it is an acronym for anything else, names like this is what prevent companies and home users to take Linux more seriously... And there's also another one called pornview, which is an image viewer.

Use XChat instead, it's better then BitchX anyways

Since BitchX has been around because it was derived from ircII it's older than you probably are Internet wise because you think X-Chat is cool. That command /wii in X-Chat came from BitchX.

Also, a BITCH is what you call a female dog.

So I guess every vetenarian in the world is immature. IF you own a pet go to your vet and tell them so.

Please, don't try to assume how old I am if you don't know. I'm far from being a kid, just so you know. And bitch is also slang for whore. Gay, for example, is an addition to express happiness. Calling somebody gay may be offensive to some. So don't go mixing apples and oranges trying to protect BitchX. It is a bad name for an application and they knew, from the beginning that it should be controversial...

You can't use X-Chat in console mode newbie. I've been using computers before monitors existed... back when they were punch card machines and ticket tape machines. I've been using BitchX since it came out. I started using it after I gave up on ircII with my IRIX SGI.

A BITCH is a female dog. iF you can't afford a dictionary use dictionary.com

It's not my fault that the first thing people think of is the bad way for the word, which is what you thought of. I thought of animals first. So don't tell me what you know and how long you have been doing X. Your mind was in the gutter first and it still is.

a female dog that is a bitch is PORNO?

And now you call me a newbie?, ghehe. Very mature for an old, old man. And just so you know, you can use xchat-text... Looks like you've not learned much along "all those years" did you grampa?

http://www.linux.com/howtos/IRC/console.shtml

Linux.com must be immature too. Regardless, in the beginning there was ircII and then BitchX. EPIC is an after thought.

Do a search for BitchX with Google.com....

289,000 sites.

Linux IRC mini-HOWTO

5. Console IRC Clients

5.1. ircII

Maintainer: ircII project

IRC Channel: #ircII (official channel ?) on EFNet http://www.efnet.org/?module=servers

Originally written by Michael Sandrof, ircII comes with most Linux distributions. It uses termcap and shouldn't be a choice for most users, but is a standard. Mathusalem and other gurus will use it. Less ventured will regret to have it installed.

You can get the latest version of ircII from ftp://ircii.warped.com/pub/ircII/ . Homepage at http://www.eterna.com.au/ircii/

5.2. EPIC

Maintainer: EPIC Software Labs

IRC Channel: #EPIC on EFNet

Based on ircII, EPIC (Enhanced Programmable ircII Client) is meant for real scripters and users searching freedom. When you start it for the first time you'll notice that you should really learn the basics of scripting.

You can get the latest version of EPIC from http://prbh.org/?page=ftp . Homepage at http://www.epicsol.org/

5.3. BitchX

Maintainer: Colten Edwards

IRC Channel: #BitchX on EFNet

Originally a script for ircII, BitchX is a popular client intended to reduce the need for scripting by including a huge array of features in the client itself (too many features for even experienced users to remember). Many consider BitchX bloatware (not necessarily a bad thing), but it is very popular amongst users and opers alike.

You can get the latest version of BitchX from http://www.bitchx.org/download.php . Homepage at http://www.bitchx.org/

5.4. irssi

Maintainer: Timo Sirainen

IRC Channel: #irssi on freenode - http://freenode.net/irc_servers.shtml and IRCnet - http://www.ircnet.org/

Timo released yagIRC in 1997. It was a GUI client using the GTK+ toolkit. The army called on him a year later, and the new maintainers wouldn't do the job. yagIRC passed away and he started irssi as a replacement. It used GTK+. GNOME and curses versions would appear later. As of 0.7.90 it's only a modular text mode client. Supports Perl scripting.

You can get the latest version of irssi from http://irssi.org/?page=download . Homepage at http://irssi.org/

5.5. Other Console IRC Clients

There are a few others ircII based clients.

Blackened - ftp://ftp.blackened.com/pub/irc/blackened/

Ninja - ftp://qoop.org/ninja/

ScrollZ - http://www.scrollz.com/

Since this is an issue with a third party site, I am closing this. Out of courtesy for Fedoraforums (and this applies to any other outside forum), these types of thread are closed.

I'd suggest that you either use the workaround in your Fedoraforum post ("bi tchx" or similar) or simply email - politely - the site admin there and ask for a rethink of the banned words policy.
