Been trying for days to install Fedora 6 on the following system...

AMD K6 500 MHz
256 RAM

using the CD version.

So far I have had tried numerous times with varying degrees of success. It sometimes fails at the start. Twice now I got as far as having 99% of my packages selection loaded and then it didn't want to know any more.

My conclusion is that installation wise this is by far the worse experience I have ever had with any linux distribution. It is so slow. It taken 3 hours to get as far as 99%.

I wont be beaten though...

Do other things install smoothly on this machine? (It is a bit underpowered for a full-blown install) Even so, what you are reporting seems excessive.

What size harddrive and how much space are you giving to Linux? (eg is it possible that it is struggling to find disk space?)

20 Gig HD, and fedora is getting all of it.

I was going to say the same thing..... Sounds like a mem prob or something - it is older machine.... Did you test the cdroms which redhat asks you to do when you first start installation? Try a diff cdrom, maybe that one stinks.
