Shutdown problem on F8 kde (X can't close by itself)
After solving another problem a new one appears: when I shut-down my system with the kde shut-down button, the session close, the screen goes black... and nothing else happens. I can see the mouse cursor and even move it, but the system never close, I cannot go to the console or see the task manager or nothing else. If I kill the X with Ctrl+Ald+Back space, the shut-dow process continues as usual.
My system: Fedora 8, 64 bits, on a Toshiba Satellite P200-17D with 2GB of ram
Thanks for your answer. Problem is I'm not sure what I must look for... the files I found in /var/log/ (like Xorg.0.log and Xorg.o.log.old) talk about the starting process: I can't find a single line talking about the shut-down process, nor even an error message.
Distribution: Mandriva 2009 X86_64 suse 11.3 X86_64 Centos X86_64 Debian X86_64 Linux MInt 86_64 OS X

The strange think is it happens ones with Fedora 8 I could not find a reason too I use Fedora a lot normally the shut down goes well I get so angry that shut off the power I know it is not a good a idea to so.
After that time it did not happens again
But there must be reason
Finally, I have found the guilty: it was artsd.
By restarting artsd before shutdown, everything works fine. The funny thing is that on the artsd restart, the kde sound system play, almost at the same time, all the system notifications that failed to sound during the session...
By a reason I cannot understand, arts always started in a wrong way, and it cannot close by itself on kde shutdown.
After all, with kde4 arts takes the way of the Dodo...
Oh well, now knotify is using mplayer instead of arts, artsd is not running anymore and everything works beautifully.

PD: I installed from the DVD.
How about closing artsd permanently? I always closed it because it makes sounds in WINE chunky.
Then I redirect all the applications to use Pulseaudio in Fedora 8.
