Security patches

I'm running Fedora 7. How do I determine what security patches have already been applied? I looked in /var/logs like somebody suggested and couldn't find anything in there.

Thanks,
Tony

This is distro-specific, moved to the Fedora forum.

You can check what packages you have installed including their version numbers by using either of the two following commands.

1) yum list
2) rpm -q --all

You can also check what newer packages are available by running this command
1) yum check-update

Installing the latest packages is how you fix bugs on Fedora. It's not like on Redhat where you can pay for a subscription service to get the latest bug fixes sent to your computer.

Thanks,
But how do I know which of those updates are security updates vs. bug fixes, etc..?

You don't. Assume with updating you're getting new features and bug fixes together. That's the thing with Fedora, it's geared towards trying out new packages with new features. It's not meant to provide stability IF YOU ARE CONSTANTLY UPDATING. It's very stable if you stick with the base fedora packages that came with install. That's not to say you can't update, just know stability is not in mind when all these updates are released. Fedora is the playground for the eventual stable Enterprise RedHat releases. So update with caution. You'll have to do some heavy searching to know exactly what packages are security updates for Fedora.
