I finally, after a day of fumbling, got vnc to work. My problem now is that I can't figure out how to get abyss to run on startup. I originally wanted the server to run without having to be logged in, but I fixed that problem with auto login. I tried using ~/.kde/Autostart method and wrote a short script to place in the directory called serverstart.sh and made it executable. the script is just:
I don't have core 5 installed, but it should be similar, look for a file called rc.local in the /etc or /etc/init.d folder. In here you can put the command to start the webserver upon bootup without having to log in. You probably don't want to use the .kde Autostart path, just the regular path to the abyssws program whatever that might be, maybe "/home/server/abyssws/abyssws -d" if you've installed it in the home directory ?
Vnc for some reason is flawless. The Abyss is the problem. hobbestec, Would I make a symbolic link in the /etc/init.d folder? everything in there seems to be executable files.
No symbolic link, just edit the rc.local file with your favorite editor and add that command to start abyss to the end of it. Then reboot and it will start abyss for you every time.
