NVnet, Forcedeth & 2.6.1

I've just installed Kernel 2.6.1 and my NVnet had stopped working. I tried to re-install it from the SRPM with no joy, it won't compile for some reason.

I downloaded the forcedeth patch for the 2.6.1 thinking to use that instead but when i try to patch I get asked which file I want to patch.

Does anyone know which file I should tell it.

Or has anyone else had probs with Nvnet and got it working, how did they do it ?

Cheers

ahh nvnet just bites in general, go with forcedeth, it's great, and the patch is really easy (it's actually part of the kernel since 2.6.2-rc1 too) the file you have downloaded is a patch for the kernel source, which you presumably do have if you're runnign on 2.6.1 (or is there an official redhat rpm you've used?)

I downloaded the 2.6.2-rc2 patch and found the readme file on how to patch the kernel. I made the forcedeth driver built-in and hey it works great (typing this using my linux now).

Hey guys this 2.6 kernel flies. Still loads to learn thou'

EDIT: Sorry, I got to this post via Google, and posted before realising that this is the Fedora distro section - many apologies, please ignore me!

Hi,

I've just upgraded from 2.4.22 (custom built kernel on Mandrake 9.2) to a build of 2.6.2-rc3. I'm having similar issues to the above.

Now I built the forcedeth support in as a module rather than having it compiled into the kernel, and the system is still trying to load the old nvnet driver from 2.4.22 which naturally does not work.

Similar is true for the NForce2 sound - I compiled ALSA and the Intel/Nforce/etc... driver as modules too, and again, the system is still trying to load the old stuff.

So I've got two questions:

1) How do I stop the system from trying to load the 2.4.22 modules that don't work?
2) How do I get the new modules loaded (and is there anything special I need to do with ALSA to get that up and running?)

I know I could just rebuild the kernel with these things compiled in, but I'd really like to know how to do it with the modules correctly... I'm learning and its useful to know all the options.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry for hijacking the thread too!
