mp3 support

How do you get mp3 support ? It is NOT the same as redhat --- those packages will not install.

Ive got to a point now, where I get xmms to open a file and :

it plays the file, about 10 - 15 times faster than normal

it creates a duplicate of the file, but in wav format in my home directory

no sound comes out

the file in my home directory its about 50 megs

what the hell is wrong ? cheers.

Several repositories provide preconfigured apt/yum packages. It's enough to just install the package tool in that case.
