Question Linux 2.6.6, nVidia Drivers

Hi, folks.

Does the standard nvidia driver installation procedure work now that Fedora Core 2 has upgraded their kernel to 2.6.6-1?

No.
The problem is not the new 2.6 kernel.
The nvidia driver is (still!) not compatible with the default 4k stacks.

I know how to compile a kernel. That wasn't my question. Try not to assume you're smarter than everyone else, odds are you'll be wrong.

Along these same lines, once they do make a driver that works with the 4k stacks, do I have to reinstall it every time I update my FC2 kernel from up2date?

The nvidia drivers, does that pertain to nforce2 motherboards too, or just their graphics cards; and if it does, how would I install a compatible kernel using some sort of removable media (CD, floppy) cause I can't get into X in my Fedora core.

Why can't you start X?

my guess is he tryed to install the nvidai drivers on his feodra kernal

if that is the case i found the best way was to simply unconfigure the drivers
open vim
and open the /etc/x11/xorg.config or what ever it is file
and do the oppisite to when u install them
ie add the line load dri
and change thedriver from nvidia back to nv

I'm not being nasty. It's a simple matter of if I wanted to recompile my kernel I would have asked that question. I was more offended by the general tone of his post including his sig about searching.

But he's right. I said somethings (a lot of things, in my case) are just above my head. But I'm sure that's true for 99% of the members here (including those who've used Linux for many years), so I don't think anyone should talk down to anyone--including what they post and what they put in ther signatures. That's why I said what I did.

But it doesn't seem that was his intention, so no harm no foul. Sorry if I was nasty.

nVidia recently updated its drivers to resolve the 4k stacks issue.

Thanks. I saw that on Slashdot this morning and the new drivers are working great.
