kernel stack 16 and update

Hi,
I'm using Fedora 8 at the moment and wanting to upgrade to Fedora 9. I'm running the linuxant modified kernel stack 16, because my Atheros AR5006EG is not recognised and I use NDiswrapper with the windows driver.
First, would there be any distribution that would recognise it ?

Otherwise, I'd like to know if there is a way to make the kernel updates and keeping the 4k option off ? Would compiling it once be enough or would it need to be done every new kernel ?

Thanks,

Ronan
