Been having a lot of long random hangs lately, I assume one of the recent updates started it as it was working fine a couple weeks ago. Only seen it happen when playing Minecraft, the `Client thread [20534]` from the logs is the java 1.8.0 process, but it is running most of the time when I use the computer.
But I am not exactly sure where to start. I googled the error and their is a bunch of similar discussion over at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/ about similar/identical errors. But they want me to compile their bleeding edge tip branch to file a bug report I sort of assume it might just make more sense to try different released i915 versions, maybe all I need to do is upgrade or downgrade 1 version to fix.
But their website does not really contain much information. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Do I just need to lookup how to regress or update the linux kernel on fedora, or can I change the intel graphics drivers and stay on the same kernel?
You might find it easier to use F36, which is already running the 5.17.2 kernel, and due for release this month. If that isn't helpful, try installing the 5.18 rawhide kernel.
Thanks mrmazda. I ran the upgrade will see if I still encounter any problems.
Not sure if I should start a new thread on this, but following their upgrade guide, I am a little confused by the cleanup steps.
autoremove gets me:

The java ones are probably understandable as Minecraft does not require any specific Java version, so they are not listed as hard dependencies, even tho I want to keep them. But how do I tell about some of these other ones? A lot of these drivers and codexs, and network managers seem like something I would not want to uninstall unless I was absolutely sure about it. But I have no idea were to start looking to verify if I indeed dont need them???
I don't know what to tell you about "cleanups". When I run dnf system-upgrade, I use --allowerasing. This hasn't been leaving me any cleaning up to do. As long as everything in a cleanup list is .fc36 and not .fc35, there's probably no good reason to remove any, unless storage space on / is an issue for you.
You might find it easier to use F36, which is already running the 5.17.2 kernel, and due for release this month. If that isn't helpful, try installing the 5.18 rawhide kernel.
Hmm, getting the same issue on both F36 kernel and installed a older one. The error stays the same and talks about the version 62 firmware `GuC firmware i915/tgl_guc_62.0.0.bin` I will have to see about finding a kernel with a different version or building my own. For installeding Rawhide like you mentioned, that woudl just be `DNF install ./kernel-*`??? But how would you tell which files you need? Looking at my system it seems semi random. like 5.17.0-300 comes with headers while 5.17.0-200 does not.
When it comes to building software of any kind, I can't help. At this point I'd try to get help from Intel's driver writers via their mailing list. Your Alder Lake CPU was launched less than 6 months ago, so probably hasn't had all the FOSS bugs worked out yet.
