ok, it fied a problem I had with running high res on my 21" (white horizontal lines all over the place) and so in that case it works, hence the thanks.
BUT the accelerated drivers for GL don't, "display 0:0 does not support GLX extensions" or equivilent. This is no huge pain but it does mean I can't run 3d stuff. (obviously).
OK, I know I am supposed to be replying to this,. So I will first say I am VERY appreciative of all the info I have gotten form this thread on the Nvidia install. However, I am still quite nervous about attempting to install because I haven't seen anything about the necessity for the KERNEL SOURCE. If I am wrong about this one I am especially hoping someone will tell me.
Up untill three days ago I was a MDK user. However, I cannot stand how it is getting. So I switched to Fedora 3. It is just that the old rule was that I had to have both the pre-configured kernel and the source for NVIDIA to install. The problem for now is that I did not get a kernel source with FC3 and cannot find one. On the other hand, the instructions given in this thread do not mention the need for the kernel source.
So is the need for a kernel source just being left out of the instructions because of the expectation that we are all supposed to already know that necessity or is it not needed for FC3? If the kernel source is actually needed where can I get it? I am using 2.6.9-1.681_FC3 (non source). PLEASE HELP.
I followed the instructions and when I rebooted, it got to the big "nVIDIA" title screen before the login screen and then just hung there. I can't log in or anything.
i did have a question about installing these nvidia drivers but got them installed. i still have 1 lingering question though, someone may be able to help me with.
the nvidia drivers appear to be installed correctly. how can i tell if they are or not? ie is there an application or some way to prove to me that i did not screw this up?
thx
btw this could be the greatest thread ever, until i find a better one. tons of help.
Try running glxgears and see what it returns your fps as being
You should get a fairly high number, I think i got somewere in the thousands.
Not sure about whats going on with the computer not letting you login, wish I could help
worked wonderfull for me..... THANKS SOOO MUCH However, are there any GUI control panels to adjust any settings or things like that, like there is for the Windows NVIDAI Drivers? if so, how do you access them.
Also during the NVIDIA driver install I got some message about rivafb module is loaded and it shouldnt be but it appears that the drivrs are running fine in FedoraaCore3 with all packages installed.. do I have to worry about anything
I, too, had the message about the rivafb drivers being loaded. You should not have any problems, as I beleive the steps after the NVIDIA install get rid of that. Just remember that if you ever update or install a package, you may have to redo the steps after the NVIDIA install, but it depends on the package.
I just played some Americas Army and it went great so i think that riva thing I dont need to worry about.... Also, when u reboot right before the login manager theres a nvidia logo with white background that flashes after i installed the drivers... so a way to tell if you installed them I guess.... but is there any control pnaels like to tweek NVIDIA settings? Or to overclock?
NVclock isnt compatible with 6600gt's until next release I read. Would using Wine with V-Tuner 2 for my Gigabyte card work? Vtuner was included with the card but there is no linux version, is it likely to damage the card if i run it with wine im not quite sure how its setup?
