how to install vlc player on fedora 13
unable to use yum command

Do you have root access?
You can download the rpm, or install from source.

Download the source .tar.bz2 file and compile it:
from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-sources.html

or do this:

wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/vlc/files/1.1.4/vlc-1.1.4.tar.bz2/download
tar -xvjf vlc-1.1.4.tar.bz2
cd vlc-1.1.4
./configure
make
make install

Wouldn't it be easier to use the rpmforge repositories. Then yum install vlc?

I agree with your method then but I bet he runs into dependency errors.

Not enough user access for OP to enable usage of yum?
