I am pleased to announce the speed issue I had is now gone! Apart from Firefox 1.5 being a bit sluggish on large pages, I now find FC5 considerably faster than 3.

To fix the problem, I upgraded to the 2080 kernel and installed the 2 nvidia packages from the livna repos. X now uses 34MB of main memory rather than 300!
