This is why I stay with Ubuntu as there is one app to download. Fedora doesn't make getting codecs easy they just give excuses about the licenses. They need to just give us a repository to use with a copy of the license. We don't want complicated OS's we just want it to work.

# rpm -Uvp http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/...2-1.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfr...2-1.noarch.rpm

...to get repositories you would want.

that is BECAUSE the fedora philosophy is -- Open ONLY there is zero, none, nada, zip closed source code in it .

if you do not like that philosophy then install something else .

then do not use fedora -- Fedora IS NOT A " just works" distro it is a testing distro AND requires a lot of effort on YOUR part .Updates WILL and do break things from time to time .

the same is true for the 3d drivers .Nvidia IS NOT INSTALLED and nether is the ATI driver.the ONLY 3d drivers in fedora ARE OPEN SOURCE ONLY.

Non-free audio/video codecs are usually available on the http://rpm.livna.org/ repositories. It works for me!

Sorry, but Ubuntu takes a lot more than just downloading one file to get real multimedia support. It's just like Fedora ... you've got to work at it and make it suit your needs. Ubuntu is no better than Fedora and no worse. I haven't had a Fedora or Ubuntu distro actually break in many, many years. Development offers, yes, but finals, no.

For you Fedora users there's EasyLife and also Dangermouse's offering of an automated multimedia installation method whereby you select what you want to install from an availability list and those items and dependencies will be automagically installed for you. Check the Fedora forum's multimedia board to obtain either of these methods.

Ubuntu also has a huge how-to that can be found on its forum's multimedia board that offers just about everything most users will ever want and it's guides you through an easy, comprehensive install.

This stuff about "my distro is better than your distro" needs to stop. It indicates just how juvenile some people are and how little they actually know about Linux.

One man's trash is another man's treasure and you don't know what you don't know.
