Can you please post the contents of your /boot/grub/menu.lst file?

Also, please indicate which order you installed the two operating systems, where you installed the GRUB bootloader etc.

The more info you give us, the more help we can give you!!

Are you using x86_64 system? I have same problem after installing nvidia driver, because it contains 32bit only OpenGL driver. As OOo is using openGL I assume problem will be there.. but did not tested yet.

Nevertheless OOo2.0b is a pretty crap..

Fedora is OK

Fedora Core 4 seems faster then previous cores. Everything seems to work great, but then again I am not on a bleeding edge PC. I hate the lack of multimedia support. It seems we are loosing the battle, almost most of the Internet radio and TV stations are switching to streaming Windows media format.

Network Install

I seem to be having certain troubles with the network install.

I've downloaded the boot disk ISO and burned it to a cd-rom - 3 times now. Each time, my computer refuses to find the boot loader from the cd. I BIOS, it checks the drive, then says "not found" and move on to the next drive. The same goes with CD1 of the install disks. The drive I try to install from is currently set as secondary slave, but I don't think that matters.
Edit: Setting the drive as Sec Master didn't help either
Any brigth ideas?

What format did you make the CDROM?

Which format did you use when you made the CDRom from the ISO, did you pick the iso9660 format or burned the Disk with the Microsoft format Jileot? Also doulbe check your Bios settings make sure you save any changes that you made. It could be a bad or a CDRom that will not play burnt CDROMS. When I havbe this problem, I usally forgot to pick the correct CDROM format and burnt and watsed a CDrw disk by selecting the wrong format.

reread your post

Sounds like the CDROM drive is bad. Suggest a new one.

Hi,
I just logged rebooted my Fedora Core 4 machine (i'm now on my windows laptop) and tried to 'startx' as im on runlevel 3. The screen turns black then hangs. Alt+F4 stops the hang and goes back to the shell. It shows X tries to start, but gets a 'Segmentation fault' and, i assume, thats why it hung. Any ideas on fixing it??

OS: Fedora Core 4
Arch: i368

I have a black screen for about 20 seconds between text mode login screen and graphical login screen. I think this is Nvidia driver related. Do you guys have this problem?

Depodra and greg108,

Can you both give us more details of your hardware? From manufacturer, drivers you are using, resolution etc?

I will be putting FC4 on my Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop soon (ie. maybe today, tomorrow) which runs an nVidia GeForce2 Go 5200 card (I think). nVidia drivers have always been a bit of an issue not coming "out of the box" with FC3.

Will let you know how that goes!

Question Fedora Core 4, Apache, and Mod_ssl from source

Has anyone been able to install Apache and Mod_ssl successfully from source? When I have tried to install them, they compiled fine but when I startup apache I get an error about permissions. Even with root permissions there still is a problem. Any ideas?

FC4 sucks......
Grub won't install no matter what I do.
I'm dual booting with XP on hda.
Grub won't install to the mbr in hda.
I tried linux rescue:
grub-install /dev/hda

Gives me a compression error.
So I tried a live cd I have(Mepis), to check my fstab file.
I can't mount the drive FC4 is on, gives error:
you must specify file type, or somthing simular.

I searched and googled and could'nt find a solution.

RealPlayer

For azbaer, I had the same problem, and listdc++ was already installed.
Downloaded the compat libs http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...2.fc4.i386.rpm and http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...7.fc4.i386.rpm and I could then install RealPlayer

Use yum to install it, as root do
Code:
#yum install compat-libstdc++-33
