Question FC2 networking....

Okay Linux world, lets see if you can help a newbie like me.....
I just installed a simple FC2 workstation which I want to use in my factory, all that these people shoudl do is run one small app and nothing else.

1) How do I configure NFS so that I can see the network?
2) Which files and how do I configure to restrict access to everythign exept the app they allowed to run...
3) Can I configure the box that at reboot it will automatically log on as a specific user and start the specific app?

I do apologise for any stupid questions in that will be coming along as well as thank you for your time to assist me.......

1- NFS ? do u have other *nix boxes in your network? if u want your linux to act as a file-print server for windows boxes, u must install samba. u can also install samba-swat. it is web based samba configuration tool. smba rpms exist in fedora CDs. intall them. u can do that via add remove aplication in redhat menu.
2- i cannot understand the question. i think i must improve my english
3- if u run "gdmsetup", u will se that it possible to configure autologin.
it is possible to run specific application when that user logs in. it depends which program will run. if it is a X application, i think it will depends which desktop manager used. maybe there are others ways do that. i dont know much about that.
if it is a consol (text mod) based application, it can be added in ~/.bashrc file. so that app will work. but i think u want GUI based application.

ps: "~" means the home directory of that user. such as /home/user

good luck.

maxut, thank you for your reply....in short this is the situation:

I have a Fedora Core 2 box, basic workstation which via the inittab file connects to another Linux server, the problem now is that althoguh it works, the fonts is a problem and I think it might be security issues or even display, not to clued up yet about all this.....

All it is it should log on as a user but to the Linux server and run the app on the server but display all the graphics and stuff in the user system...(Boy, I think my english need some work )

So it looks liek I need help with the permissions on the actually server and also transferring the fonts?????

sorry, im not familiar to the networks which are full of linuxes i just know a little about bind qmail iptables squid ..

i understand what u want to do. i know it is possible to run X on server side only. every works will done by server, client will just diplay.
unfortunatelly i dont know how to do that either.
but basicly, if u think that it is permission based trouble, u can add client host into /etc/hosts.allow file. so i think server will allow client to connect local services on server. but there may be a configuration options for X itself to allow client to connect to X via network. also check firewall rules on server, if it has some rules that can block client requests.

good luck.

Is it possible for you to give me an excample of what the entry into this hosts.allow file shoudl look like because I had a look and there is nothing?
Am I correct to say it shoudl be the ip address of the machien to connect only?

i dont know if it is enough to add the ip of client.

u better add the client name.

hosts.allow can include just the name of client.
example:
Code:
clientboxname
or
Code:
clientboxname.domainname
and add the same client's hostname to /etc/hosts to make sure linux will know the ip of that client's hostname.
exapmle of /etc/hosts:
Code:
ip_of_client clientboxname
or
Code:
ip_of_client clientboxname clientboxname.domainname other_names_of_that_box

Question

Okay we almost there, I can now connect to the server with no problems and even get the applications runnign but now the followign is the problem, first the app does not show any frames, secondly the function keys does not work.........so where can I start to look or fix this issue?

I still feel it is a fonts and/or permission (but if it was permission, I shoudl not be able to even get the app started???)

ANY IDEAS PLEASE!!!!
