Can you plz list the steps you carried out, in detail.
1. At what point does the compilation process not proceed ?
2. Or are these errors show up after booting into the new kernel ?
3. Did you choose the /dev filesystem support............

Plz provide the steps u followed while compiling the kernel.

Hello Edgar

sorry for the late reply.

Earlier i was using kernel 2.4.2115.

Steps followed:

1. make xconfig
Here i selected the options with correct cpu type and file system support.
2. make dep
3. make clean

4. make bzImage
Here after much time i got error "Kallsysms error" and "vmliux error"

Now i am doing this with latest kernel 2.6.something

In this version i do not get the error and the bzImage is made.

But when i try to boot it........ the system hangs after CPU detection.

I am using Grub and kernel is on /dev/hdc6.

I made the following entry in grub.conf

title NewLinux
root (hd0,4)
kernel /newlinux ro root=/dev/hd4

I am not making any entry for initrd as i do not know wat it really is and how to make that

i am looking for it

Please help me out

Thanks.
Jasmeet
